Dawne Brandel

Dawne was born in Kelowna B.C. surrounded by lakes, orchards and the four seasons. From an early age she has always loved the arts, immersing herself in art classes all through school. Drawing and composition classes at the Alberta College of Art solidified her desire to take it to the next level.

Floral design and horticulture became a passion where she spent most of her adult career. The floral arts taught her about composition, texture, and design. These elements influence her paintings today.

Retirement from floral designing has allowed her to focus on painting full time.

A member of The Federation of Canadian Artists, Dawne has won many awards for her work in juried shows. She is a member of the Side Door Gallery at The Old School House Art Gallery in Qualicum Beach B.C. where she displays her work.

“I love to play with pattern and colour, layering the paint for rich effects if using acrylic. The pieces are always evolving. I guess that is what art is all about – to always stretch yourself and grow. An artist once said ‘your ability is always two years behind your vision’. I have found this to be true for me so the most important lesson I have learned in this process is to just keep at it.”
